i have an old laptop and about the only thing thats good on is the screen

if it has the correct fittings you could plug a dvd player in to it ....

Soldering a standard connector and power socket to the ribbon, use it as a standard desktop screen.
Or you can sell the parts on eBay; some people can restore or use parts to their own will so they will take the junk or parts from you.
