The kamasutra is a compilation which explains the manner, behaviour and types of relations permissible in ancient India. It is purely devoted to further the pleasure of the mind through the physical means.

It is a guideline only and is not limited to; Creativity is boundless and has sparkled many a mind to great discoveries and achievements.

To write such a treatise, one should have had a knowledge of psychology, physiology, sociology, geography and the religious practices.. for if you had read the book, you would realize that an ordinary man whose mind is full of lust could not have written this - it is the work of those with a clear mind and determined hearts!

A sutra is a holy book, and Kamasutra is a book on the art of love. Human sexuality is a divine pleasure and like the pillow books of Japan, offer suggestions of different ways of pleasing your partner in sex.

Kamasutram, generally known to the Western world as Kama Sutra, is an ancient Indian text on human sexual behavior, widely considered to be the standard work on love in Sanskrit literature. The text was composed by Vatsyayana, as a brief summary of various earlier works belonging to a tradition known generically as Kama Shastra, the science of love. Kama is literally desire. The text is originally known as Vatsyayana Kamasutram ("Vatsyayana's Aphorisms on Love"). Tradition holds that the author was a celibate scholar. He is believed to have lived sometime between the 1st to 6th centuries AD, probably during the great cultural flowering of the Gupta period.

Hope this helps.
