I reckon it can't because the optic nerve won't let the eye extend beyond its socket. Also, the eye muscles would need to be cut - meaning that the eye could never work again after removal. (That US basketballer simply lost his eyelid, temporarily, behind his eyeball). My friends disagree.

i asked him to show me how to do it and so he described the technique to me but honestly i have never done it, working with anger management instead

An eye can not be removed and replaced with our current knowledge. The optic nerve is impossible to mend, however in some avulsions the eyeball may be returned as long as the optic nerve isn't divided or necrotic. Usually in avulsions, the nerve is damaged and the eye is returned for cosmetic effect or more likely removed and a glass eye used.

An eyeball can be removed from the socket and then replaced IF AND ONLY IF the optic nerve is not damaged. In other words, you cannot replace the eyeball, but you can return it.

Before laser treatments were as common as they are today (we're talking 20 years or more), Detached Retinas would be reattached surgically. In order to reattach, the doctor needs to add stitches to the back of the eye.

At least this is how it was explained to my brother and I just after he got out of the hospital after having his Detached Retina fixed.

Scientists are working on ways to remove eyes. But currently only such thinks as corneas can be replaced. And again, I think they pop the eyeball out, replace the cornea, and pop the eyeball back in.
