No, rats are not commonly eaten but pigeons are. You must understand that Asia has been through many famines and to survive, people ate anything. Even British soldiers ate rats during their internment during World War II, so foods you find repulsive keep others alive. I am white and I live in China and have eaten many strange foods, from dog, to cat, snake, sea horses, scorpions and sea worms. But now most of these items are considered delicacies and are not cheap. I have eaten emu, camel, yak, various deer, crocodile, shark and such. I spent seven years in Vietnam and the foods are much the same...In the area near Hong Kong (Guang Dong Province) people are said to eat anything with its back to the sun. Don't look down on them as it was in the past a matter of survival.

May be they do. But what is the big deal. People in some other parts of the world may find what we eat in America strange too. Like some people do not eat pig and Americans do. Wha about sausages? They say that in America people stuff meat in pig intestines and eat that. Only most Americans do not even know that sausage is meat stuffed in intestines.
