I believe the star/asterisk stands for: To Make A Mark On.
Rockers RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS have come underfire from the KAISER CHIEFS for putting a sign on their dressing room door reading "do not enter without permission". The Kaisers fought back at Scotland's T In The Park festival this weekend (08-09JUL06) by playing the American stars at their own game. Frontman RICKY WILSON said, "We put some (signs) up saying 'The Kaiser Chiefs welcome the Chilis, however, the Chilis may not enter without permission'. Which the Chilis won't understand."

Well, Keidis became sober around the time Californication was released, and John Frusciante returned to the band after kicking his addictions to heroin and crack cocaine. With him, John brought a different sound and energy to the band, evident of his story of destruction and rebirth. I think that this quote is Kiedis saying, "we did some stuff that we regret, but look what I took from the experience."
