Same as with all other chain mail would be my guess.
No other reason behind them than chain mail I would suppose.
I, personaly don't see how anyone could make a living at something like this, but if they could I might like to try it, seems much easier than my job.
I don't even know what superstition is.
If I got one, I would probably delete it also.
One other thought,
there is a very good possibility it is a computer virus.

Chain emails are just another version of chain letters. You must not be old enough or you would have included them in your question. The ppl who pass them on believe that they will have good luck if they pass them on and believe they will not if they don't. And some ppl just don't want to take the chance that these things might happen.
I don't tend to believe in them, didn't believe in them when they were letters either.
Btw, forwards are different than chain letters/emails. Forwards you can send on if you feel like it and there is no warning about bad luck or promise of good luck. Be sure to keep that in mind.

Well, I wish there was some sort profit generated from this but people just do it to show they are alive, some use it as a form of research, were the answeres always sent back to the originator of the mail. Some are to just test how superstitious you are.
Some are actually educative, if you take time to read them.
I also sometime delete that is if its a useless one.

I agree. What is it with "forward this email to a zillion people or you'll get a hundred years bad luck"
And then there are the religious ones, saying "if this was a joke you'll forward it to all, but because it's religious you're probably thinking twice"
What kind of psychology lies behind all of this?
