I hate spiders too. I heard only yesterday on radio 2 that spiders for some reason hate Chestnut wood. must be the smell or something but listeners were emailing in with suggestions that if you put a couple of conkers down in the corners of the room or if you use a chestnut polish then the spiders will disappear and not come back.
Worth a try I guess. nothing to lose and wont cost anything.

I'm scared sh*tless of spiders and they Are getting bigger. Why not get one of those bug removal thingies like a container on a stick and just put them outside. we had one about 3 inches long in the dining room the other day which my wife found a 5.33am and screamed the place down. Still haven't found the bugger. I use a glass and a greetings card as long as I can get the legs under that is. If I can't I chase it with a brush. NOt much help but i think I've earned the 2 points hahaha.

I am a hypnotherapist. Phobias of spiders is very common and can be helped by hypnosis. What your subconscious mind is telling you is that the spider is a threat to your physical and/or emotional well-being. Hypnosis can tap into your subconscious and re-programme your reaction to a stimulus ie seeing a spider.
it may take anything from one to six sessions but should work depending on how open you are to change. 99% of people can be successfully hypnotised. Contrary to common belief, you are in full control at all times, not the hypnotist - he or she is only a guide.
hope this helps,
Mr prem shah, London

I am absolutely terrified of spiders. Most of the time I scream for hubby to kill them. Some times though I can overcome this, actually by getting angry. It's like reverse phsycology for yourself. Get angry at the fact that they are even in the house. Then get angry at the fact of you being scared of a spider. When you are angry enough, you will find that the anger obscures your fright, and you will feel empowered to smash the little sh*ts. Believe me, I practically have a heart attack every time I am confronted with one. It effects every aspect of my life, and it's hard for people without the fear to understand. I don't want this to control me either and this is the only thing that has made coping a little better for me. Try it, I hope this helps! Good luck!

I too was once terrified of spiders but I have managed to cure myself up to the point that now if I see one I place a tumbler over it then slide a piece of cardboard or stiff paper under the tumbler then carefully lift tumbler and hold card in place then let the spider out in garden,it's takem me years to get this far but I hope one day I will actually have courage to pick them up by hand

Its a sad thing to have Arachnophobia, considering the spider is more frightened of you than you are of it!
Spiders are harmless unless you live in Australia, and basically do you a favour by killing all the flies and moths etc.
Your fear is a condition of the mind that can be changed quite easily, the greatest fear is fear itself, and the only way to confront your fear is to have someone place a spider in your hand or show you one up close.
Take deep breath's and remember that the spider is harmless and is more frightened of you...
I have a pet tarantula and he is a cute little fur ball that amazes me everyday...their quiet amazing creatures and the only ones to fear are all in Australia, so don't worry yourself about it and good luck!

I am also petrified each time I see a spider. My bf usually catch them and put them away as I would not approach one for all the gold in the world. However, since he is tired of catching them all the time he wants me to fight my fear. And according to him, the best way would be to hold a big spider like a tarantula... NOT SURE REALLY I WOULD LIKE IT

I was like that to., but you can't stay out of the house, there are more spiders out there than there are in the house.. so get a broom, and kill the suckers.. and you will get over your fear of them, sure beats being outside with all the rest of them !!
