It depends on whether you consider Wales and Scotland to be English colonies.

Ireland is an independent nation. Northern Ireland ( or Ulster as the protestants like to call it) is part of the UK and made up of the 6 counties that split from Ireland. These proud Ulstermen live under the illusion that there should never be a united Ireland and that they are British. The IRA spent 30yrs bombing people in England mistakenly thinking the English gave a toss about Ulster!
So yes, Ireland WAS a part of the UK but no longer is, and holpefully in the near future Ulster will no longer be part of the UK.
Hope this made things clear to you?

It was part of the United Kingdom, NOT a colony; The voters in what is now the Republic of Ireland would (before independence) elect representative Members of parliament to the UK parliament.
Colonies, on the other hand have no representation in parliament.

I don't think Ireland was ever considered an English colony. It was always considered the Kingdom of Ireland.

Ireland divided into Ireland which is a separate state and Northern Ireland which is part of U.K. It was not able to gain Independence from UK. Its citizens must unite to revolt against the British in order to have a country of their own.

Ireland was a part of England until they formed the Irish Free State around 1918. only 6 counties in the north remain part of the united kingdom. Ireland is traditionally roman catholic and England is protestant.
