I mean come on black people, why do you do it? Is it cool for someone to call you that? What if I called you that, is it okay? No, so then why do you all continue to use the deragory term, if you don't want other people to use it? Why not just stop doing it and set the example, instead of setting the wrong example and keeping the word alive? Sheesh, and then you all get offended when someone calls you it? Hypocrattes!!!!!

ok, let me rephrase N***er is definatly derogatory, but why is N***a acceptable? Just because it has been modified to take out the "er" and change it to an "a". Does the word mean something else? No, it still refers to a black person. So, would it be ok for me to call every black person i see a "N***a!" Could i just go around and say hey there N***a!

People would still be offended, which brings me back to my original question. Why do you use the word N***a, to refer to each other, but don't let anyone else refer to you as that?

for the record i have never called anyone any variations of this word, i know it, but do not use it. It just bothers me, because it seems that this is still such a big bad issue with black people, and they wonder why it doesn't end.

no not all black people are hypocrattes, just the ones who use any variation of the N word, then get offended when it is used on them by anyone else.

Okay, let me go about this on a different approach because the answers you are receiving are not enough in my opinion.

N i g g e r: a black person, 2. a member of any dark-skinned race, 3. a member of a socially disadvantaged class of persons of America's (N I G G E R S)...all the people who feel left out of the political process.

Unfortunately in today's time, the word N i g g a has been urbanized, the word has been taken very lightly over the years from my younger black American generations. Sadly, some black teens are not educated on how serious the word Ni g g e r means and what it entails. How our ancestors died over the word and I feel that people should be very consciences about the word N I G G E R OR N I G G A whether it be inside the black race or not. It's a racial, degrading, and offensive word that shouldn't even be heard in the average rap song or on the many young people on the streets, but it is. Maybe from ignorance, or influence. Who's to blame, our environment, the media influence: music, television, and Hollywood.

Just the other day I watched "Not Another Teen Movie" and the Chinese character clearly said, "What's up my n i g g a!" to his fellow Asians. It's ridiculous and I couldn't even fine the humor in it.

Jennifer Lopez used the word N i g g a in one of her songs. She's not black, she's Hispanic and she should have not used that word. She could have used boys, homeboys or a different word, yet she used that word and blacks accepted her using this word. That was wrong on her and our people to be allowing anyone to use the word so freely and that's why it's out of hand now.

I educate my younger simblings and other family members to not use N i g g er and N i g g a. To ignore how others including the average celebrity says it. It isn't right. And I pray that one day, black's and anyone other race will put an end to it. It is hypocracy, it isn't right and this issue has long gone out of control. Thank you for bringing this issue up even if you did come off a little...hostile.

I once asked a black man that I worked with this very question his response was it is the same thing as when you talk about a relative you can pretty much say what you want about that person because they are one of you but let someone else say something bad about that person and you are ready to fight.

When the term is bandied about between two Black people its brutal sting is removed and it exist in a totally different state. Why do people agonize ove this, just accept that the use of the word by non Blacks is still highly offensive, and leave it at that. You don't have to have complete insight into every nuance of a person, just deal with it as it is.

I don't call myself and others that. That's disrespectful. I get offended when all people use the word this includes people of all colors and ages. I think no one should say a word like that it counts as a racial slur.

N i gga or ***** is what I have heard, not the word you used. I am curious to know why this bothers you so much? The word you used is a derogatory term. I have always hated it. It can cause so much pain.

don't know why it is but interesting to note that in Latin the word for black is niger, which I assume is where Nigeria's name comes from as well as Niger (but the g is softly pronounced). If this is the source then strictly speaking it is not an insult to use the derivation "******", although these days it is a put down word.

Let me say this to you all black folks do not let me repeat myself do not call each other the N word, this seen to be a young generations thing which to me is very degrading just like when they call each other dog. Please know this I teach my daughter, my niece and nephew which are young teenagers that the N words is not to be used that way and never to forget our history we suffer and fought to rise this far so stand for something or history is due to repeat it's self. So check yourself who ever you are.

I guess it's one of those things, it's ok if they do it but not if an outsider does; like with your best friends or siblings, you can call each other names or tease in a way that would make you mad if it came from an outsider.
