There are many ways to do this especially if you are creative. It would help if you told us what type of website you have. Is it a personal site? Or are you selling a product?
You can create a free blog using Blogger or Wordpress or (insert your favorite blog service here) to drive traffic to your site. Join Technorati and add your blog to the list. Create tags for people to find your blog. You can also participate in social networking sites.
You can join forums relevant to the topic of your site and be an active participant. Many of these forums will allow you to post a short signature below your post where you can introduce others to your website.
These are just a few quick suggestions. There are too many to list here.
I would suggest joining some internet marketing forums to learn what other marketers are doing. You can also ask questions there. Most people will be glad to help you out if you are sincere in learning.
