The sea! It's not going to be any good trying rivers, lakes or drains. We caught one in Devon once

There are plenty of mackerel in Guernsey waters if you want to take a fishing holiday but it is getting late in the season for them now. They are a summer fish. They can be caught on rod and line but if you want a feast drop a weighted line with lots of baited hooks into a shoal.

You dont say where abouts in London you are, but you can fish the Solant / Channel quite easily from your location. Fishing charter boats are readily advertised on the web, so just search and pick your choosen location.
I usualy fish off Selsey and the surrounding area, good fishing & not too far from you if your in S. London..?

how 'bout considering a fish other than mackerel? Mackerel has high (or higher than normal) levels of mercury. At least look into it.
