Pal of mine is gay and West Indian and he says that it comes originally from the strict religious thing which then becomes a cultural thing. He also says that the gay man thing doesn't sit easily with the macho culture where men are men, but seems to think that most of them don't have a problem watching two women get down to it in a porn flick. LOL

Presumably a cultural thing and most definitely a religious aspect. The Muslim faith, or should I say its followers do not seem to have much of a grasp on the subject other than a blanket approach of it being evil. They don't seem in the least bit supportive of members of their family who try to come out. I saw a programme where a young lesbian said that her mother had told her that if she (the lesbian)wanted to be a good Muslim and spare the family disgrace, she should commit suicide!! No further comment!! P.S. I am not having a go at the Muslims, they are entitled to believe whatever they wish, but I do not have to agree with them.

I suspect Iain N has a point. Peer pressure maybe? A more prevalent religious upbringing than the secular upbringing of most white people today?

because they come from originally very strict family back grounds.
lets face it the average white man is still a homophobe, or at least makes jokes at the gay mans expense, although for some reason lesbians are seen as a source of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
