Yes they do. If you have an old clock that chimes, gongs, or cuckoos; you will soon get used to it and sleep through the night.

Back then most people could not sleep till 9:00. AM.

That and CCD and optical sensors were hard to come by. They were patented by the Cherokee Indians and they were not willing to sell them to the villagers and townspeople.
