I think you'll be disappointed. Many people associate Brown with 'old Labour' and therefore the policies of 'old Labour'. Don't be fooled: Brown will be 'new Labour' with an 'old Labour' spin (if that is possible!). Whether that'll keep the trades unions and Labour backbenchers happy is another matter altogether. Is it possible to keep them and 'middle England' happy at the same time?

I think not, a large number of Trade Unionists at their conference yesterday made it known to (B)liar just how detested he is throughout the whole of the Labour/Trade Union movement. It is therefore highly unlikely that any Trade Union leader would want to meet and discuss matters with (B)liar (a) because he's a useless git, (b) He's on his way out and therefore has little or no clout anymore.
Beer and sandwiches with Gordon??? - Again unlikely, particularly as he has also indicated that he wishes to pursue similar policies to (B)liar - policies which affect the livelihoods of a large number of Trade Union members and by implication a large number of society in general.

No. Modern day union leaders are nothing like their counterparts in the days of Harold Wilson. Then they were genuine working class people striving to represent their members. Today's union leaders are simply politicians under another name drawing salaries and pensions the like of which, their members will never see. Just as we have the curse of the career politician we now have the career union leaders. Given their self importance I doubt whether beer and sandwiches would be acceptable to them.

Gordon Brown and Tony Bliar are two peas in a pod. Bliar's wars required funding - Brown approved it.
Brown is New Labour through and through. The trade unions are only relevant insofar as they provide much needed cash to the Labour party.
