This is a serious question. I have been dancing (stripping) for 5 years and am now in my 30's and really have had enough of it.
I want so much to move forward, yet I have trouble finding a job as I have no background on my resume and certainly no past references I can use. I really need to move forward, yet I do not know where to go next. Let me rephrase that - I know where to go next, I just don't know how to get there.
I am in Ohio and if anyone knows of a job counselor or somewhere I can go where I can get a good job where my background is not an issue, please let me know.

I also have friends who are in the same boat. None of us really have a place to go next, yet we are all eager to do something else, and we all have experience from prior "real jobs".

I really need to find someone who will help me get a job.
Does anyone know of a service for this?

If criminals and people on welfare can get help from the government...why can't we?

this is your states "Employment site" it has job listings in all of your state. there should be offices where you can go and they will help with job placement and resume writing. https://scoti.ohio.gov/scoti_lexs/

Look at this section to find offices for help:

Ohio has a statewide system of "One Stop" locations in each county where staff are available to assist you in your employment and training needs. A One Stop location consists of staff that are available to assist you in resume development, interviewing skills, training, access to computers, telephones, faxes, etc.

Yes, you can go to the employment office and they have counseling there. Also you can visit the community college and they have some different testing that you can do.

Thirty is still quite young - you can go to vocational school (hairdresser) - you can go to college (there are pell grants, loans and such). As a dancer I am sure that you are good with make up you could become an independent rep for Mary Kay or Avon many women excel in this market.

Best of Luck

I would be happy to show you how to run your own home based business in a multi-billion dollar industry....health and anti-aging. It's very inexpensive to get started and I would be happy to show you how to start earning a very lucrative income.
I worked as a cocktail waitress for many years and found the environment really took it's toll on me and I also didn't have a whole lot of other skills.
I really dedicated myself to learning this because I wanted to work from home and allow myself to pursue my passion, which is travel.
I think you would be very surprised at how much income you can earn doing this, and I as well as others, will teach you everything you need to help you build a very nice income.
Contact me if you think you would like to give this a try...it's something you can do while you are still working until you can replace your income.

Honestly, the best place to go for resources for job seeking is to your local unemployment office. If you're a tax payer, it's your right to use such resources. They have people there who will help you find a job and they even have some jobs that are reserved just through them. It's not just a place to get an unemployment, it's a great resource for job seeking!

You can find a job without your history being an issue, but be aware that you will take a major pay cut.
You will have to work a cash register somewhere or something like that and work your way up.
I've hired several ex-strippers, but I'm not in Ohio.

Even if you do not have references , I am sure you have your own network of contacts by now.Best way to get your foot in is through contacts.Use them. For a start if possible join some voluntary agency where your potential of understanding people can be used. You have experience in dancing and also dealing with new people. Not every one is confident in dealing with new people. You have that ability. Use that.

Try Monster.com or Yahoo Hot Jobs! I got my last job on Monster.com. I started working for At&t Wireless through a temporary job agency who had the listing on monster.com . Within 2 months, I was working directly for AWS. My supervisor liked my work, so offered me a permanent position! You can get your foot in the door with temp agencies, and if the company your working at decides to keep you, you can start working permanent with the company directly. It's called temp to hire!

Have you thought about adult entry into a college or something to get a course/ qualification behind you.

What about teaching dance classes, they dont have to be erotic. Strip is one of the best forms of exercise, you loose weight and tone at the same time. Look at Carmen electra fit to strip.
