My mom and one of my sisters are bi-polar. Dealing with
them can be kind of tricky, because they seem to exist in
their own reality. They "remember" things that never happened
and don't remember the hurtful things they did. After an
expecially heinous number they pulled that really hurt some
of my younger brothers and sisters, it was hard even to talk
to them as they blamed everything on my father, who was one
of the people badly hurt by their conduct (it eventually broke up
their marriage) It made me so mad I just wanted to boot them off
the nearest cliff, but finally realized that there was nothing I
could do that would make them accept responsibility for their
actions. And being mad and angry just hurt me.
Now I just watch out for the signs that they are entering a
manic phase and keep as far away from them until they get over
it (neither of them accept theri illness and won't take any meds
to control their impulses) When they start on one of their rants
or recall one of their "memories{" I just try to change the subject
as quickly as possible, if that doesn't work, I leave.

Take it all in your stride. As many personalities as that person has, you should get used to them all and be friends with them. But do make sure they're getting counselling.
