*Passed* is a verb (To Pass) so it relates to an action of passing something / one.
*Past* is related to time, and something that has already happened.
(Ie - In the past I have passed many exams)

Passed is verb, overcoming some barrier, like exam; it is noun in play; player makes pass the ball to other player.
Past is adjective, narrating time, history. Peace is now a past talk in Lebanon.

Past is a point in time. Passed is the past tense of the verb pass.

Once you realize, that by simply recalling your memories, you have "passed into your past", then you might see the difference. However, if "your past has passed you by", then the difference may not be clear to you.
