I lost their new email address although I still have their old one and their name. Will that help to find their new address?

Ask them directly or see if they have another website such as friendster, you can send and recieve messages there, you can search their names there, if they have one
Oh there is also the Yahoo Member Directory, you could search their names there.

Is the old mail still active if so what prevents you from writing to them in that address. As far as I know it is not possible locate the email address of a person by name because due to problem of repetitive names (name already exist) people are forced to give pseudo names for themselves make it almost impossible to locate.
