You may have your computer set to turn itself off automatically.

Take a look at your Power Management options:
Start>Control Panel>Power Options>Power Schemes (Tab)

Make sure that "Turn off monitor" and "Turn off hard disks" are
set to "never" (you may have one or more set at "20 minutes".

sounds to me like a voltage problem my answer to this or to find out if this is so is to buy a voltage meter that plugs into the wall and have it in site and watch if it dips in the red out of the green area

low power killed my computer once and that was a day ago I bought another power supply for $40 and I put it in myself and I am back up and running

Sounds like you may have a problem with the transformer in the back of the computer, may be getting to warm, does the fan work? if not that's most likely the problem. but best bet to take the thing to your local Computer shop.
