When they got down off the horse :)

Many of the most significant changes to and experiments with the baseball uniform occurred during the 19th century: baseball’s formative era. However, the most significant changes to baseball stockings have occurred in the 20th and 21st centuries. Striped and multitoned stockings were first introduced in the early 1900s, while stirrup socks and visible sanitary hose soon followed. Extremes in stirrup styles peaked in 1980s and 1990s as today’s fashion is a return to solid-colored stockings.

Don't think that they ever got off them officially....funny that in the NFL yo do some little change to you uniform you get fined.....look at some of the teams where there will be some players showing the stirrups and most of the others note.....is there not a regulation that the players have to be in "uniform" in their dress??.....really do think they look better if done right....we use to cut the bottom and put an extension so as to get a little more white to shoe....we even wore a special white stocking over the socks to show more white.....yea! I know I am an old timer!!!

Good joke question. Socks still have stirrups but the players now pull their pant bottoms down so far that you can't even see the socks. And I'm a pro coach so the answer is right.

Some players still wear them where you can see them. I hate the pants down to the foot. Ugly.
