I would like to know if one will always receive this benefit and can it revert over to the deceased spouse Social Security disability.

SS website can help with this...but that is my understanding that yes the other spouse can choose the deceased's amount of SS comp if it is higher and forfit their own smaller amount.

When my father-in-law died my mother-in-law received his larger amount. As she was in a nursing home we had to meet with SS and they said she would get his amount and lose her small amount. Now I am recently widowed and waiting for the death Certificate I need to take to SS so I can get that very issue settled. I live in Florida but would think all states would be the same. To me you should be able to keep both as it was paid into. Many people tell me I should have been receiving half of his amount but have gotten less than 1/3 every month. Of course that is a different issue.

Of late she gets remarried barring few people.
