Avoid eating large amounts of carbs such as white bread, white rice, and pasta. Turkey is also a notorious after-meal sleep inducer. Also, avoid eating and drinking lots of sugary stuff because they only give you only a short burst of energy before you feel sluggish again. And make sure you drink the recommended 8 cups of water a day. Staying hydrated helps out a lot. Good luck!

well, my personal answer has been to not eat lunch, but that isn't really the best. If you do have the time you should take a nap like they said. If not, maybe you should drink some caffeine with your lunch, but that can then lead to you having trouble falling asleep at night. Maybe you should try to get more sleep overall, just so that you don't hit those tired points. Its possible that it has nothing to do with lunch, maybe that's just your low point of the day. You might want to do some experimenting with that. Sorry i can't be of much help

I have the same problem. Digestion takes up a whole lot of energy. I heard from some guy in the military that if you are lost in the desert you should only drink, not eat, because it taxes your body so much. You could eat a lighter lunch and have a heavier breakfast or dinner. Also, taking more time to eat lunch helps a lot too. Enjoy the food!

Actually this is quite natural - in hot countries and even not so hot countries, Spain for example they always have a siesta. A wise saying is:
After lunch rest a while, after dinner walk a mile.
If you get an hour for lunch, 15mins to eat and 45mins go to a place where you can doze off - staff room/your car/the library.
Otherwise, don't eat a heavy lunch, don't drink alcohol - fruits/veggies and lots of water should do it.

Your body is a machine-- and it's used to the old days. If you can hunt and find food, it stores all of it and leaves you time to relax, because times are rough. If you can't find food, it would start making you alert and ready for anything. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you might want to stop with the turkey sandwiches and get to the treadmills. I lie, treadmills suck, but how 'bout an excercise bike? You are just eating a bit much. Sorry to be hard on you, but I went through this once and it wasn't pretty.

JOSEPH,

MOST OF US USUALLY HAVE A TUMMY FULL AT LUNCHTIME, WHICH MAKE US LAZY. ALSO WE TEND TO SIT DOWN OR LIE DOWN AS WE ARE PRETTY STUFFED.

FEW STEPS CAN HELP.

AVOID VERY HEAVY LUNCHES, THE COMPOSITION OF FOOD IS IMMATERIAL. INSTEAD HAVE A HEAVY BREAKFAST. DRINK WATER, PLENTY OF IT, EVEN IF YOU DO NOT FEEL THE NEED TO DO SO.

TAKE A STROLL IN YOUR OFFICE / SURROUNDING AREA, STAND & READ THE NEWS OR ENGAGE IN AN ACTIVITY THAT REQUIRES STAYING ON YOUR FEET FOR 10 - 15 MINUTES.

LASTLY, IF YOU DO FEEL DROWSY, BREATH. BREATH DEEPLY, WHICH WILL HELP IN BLOOD CIRCULATION & MORE OXYGEN INTO YOUR SYSTEM MAKING YOU FEEL FRESHER.

HOPE THIS HELPS BUDDY.

I know workers in Spain take quick nap after lunch.
Don't get to work right after lunch, especially if you are in on office and in front of the computer a lot. Instead go outside, fresh air, splash your face with cold water, stretch, quick exercises.
Stretching and quick exercises helped me a lot.

It used to happen to me a lot because of the nature of my work.
Co-workers offered me coffee, and I don't drink coffee.
I used to see them walking around with large cup in their hands all day.

Certain foods, especially carbs, will make you sleepy after you eat. I would eat fewer carbs at lunch time if it were making me sleepy and causing me to perform not-so-well at work or school.
