On a clear night away from the city lights, you don't normally need binoculars either, but you may get a creak in your neck.

The moon is the best example. Other satellites can be seen only with telescopes. (I've heard that a person with extremely acute vision can see Jupiter's four largest planets with the naked eye; but I'm blind as a bat, so I can't put this to a test.)

"I think I saw a satellite / How can I see a satellite?"

"Many artificial satellites are visible to the unaided eye. They shine by reflecting sunlight and can be brighter than many stars. Satellites are distinct from aircraft in that they typically take about two minutes to cross the sky from one horizon to another and do not have flashing landing or navigation lights."
