I need a liquid to use in a sculpture that will not grow algae, is not corrosive, flammable, smelly, toxic.

Similar properties to water - viscosity, evaporation point.

It will be exposed to plastic, metal & glass.
The container will have a lid, but it is not airtight. It will also have an aquarium pump blowing bubbles through it.

must not harm the pump, or the plastic submerged in the liquid..

I will be using food dye to colour it, so the liquid can be clear, or could be green or blue (not too thick that you cant see through it)

I have used water before but after 3-6 months it goes all yuck with algae & stuff, which is a pain because it takes days to pull the thing apart to clean it up.

I have tried water with algae inhibitors (ie pond cleaners) but that does not work.

Something that doesn’t cost too much, and is easy to get

It can be something that is added to water, as long as it meets the conditions above.

If it lasts for years that would be great

Algae need water, air primarily... so distilled water wouldn't do..

Try glycerol.. It might work.. you generally mix it with water and use it in car radiators.. Pure glycerol is supposed to be like water- color less, but the commercial ones we get are usually greenish.. due to some additives...
