1. Kate - doctor, used to live in a house upon the lake. this was her own sanctuary. a place where she could be herself. Alex - architect, moves into the lake house. Kate leaves a letter to the next occupant of the house, telling them to fwd her mail to blah blah address. Alex responds to Kate's letter. Through their exchange of letters, they realise they are living two years apart. Alex is living in 2004, while Kate is living in 2006. Their friendship begins to turn into love. They both desire to meet each other, but they dont know where or how, impossible it seems. They try once, but failed. Why, because in Kate's time, he's dead. But Alex is alive in his time. (This is whats so confusing to everyone, especially the stupid ending) Kate then begins to realise she knows, well...has met Alex before... Anyways, towards end, Kate realises who Alex really is, and why their meeting failed...
2. I have not read the novel, or seen the movie II Mare. It is indeed a delicate portrayal of two characters that continually to grow and change. Movie is sentimental, a fragile piece of film that tells the story of how two characters, were able to connect with each other, bonding, forming a friendship that transformed into love, and battling against time to be together. Indeed the movie is at times confusing, the pre-recorded dialogue of both characters seem to portray the true inner self of both characters quite well. Both Sandra and Keanu have great on screen chemistry, which makes this movie just satisfactory. The storyline could have been more stable, to emphasise the time differences and make audience understand how, not why. Film is sweet and emotionally and mentally exhausting. The music is well suited to the movie also, brings out the magic of the scenery and the couple's relationship.
3. hmm...the scene where Alex sneezed, that could've been more real. So damn fake, it's so noticeable. And maybe not have the Alex scene at the beginning, thats sorta like the beginning of Mission Impossible 3. Sorta wrecks the storyline a bit.

1) A lonely doctor (Bullock) who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its newest resident, a frustrated architect (Reeves). They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late
2) LOVE Keanu Reeves. full of typical Sandra Bullock 'sad & confused face'. the original Korean version (Siworae) is much much better.
3) the ending is wierd. ending in Siworae is much logic. i guess a Hollywood's romantic movies need 'happy ending'.

Its about two people who are in different years, but somehow they can talk to each other through this mailbox.....they end up falling for each other and one decides to wait for the other....and she comes to find out that he's the man that dies in the beginning whom she tried to save...so she has to rush and catch him before the bus hits him or else they will never be together....
Overall I thought it was an excellent movie...it was romantic...funny...and way original....
all of the scenes were pretty good...cant remember one that I didn't like...
