they where tight pants because it wont get in the way cause if you had baggie pants then your glove could get caught on or pants and you could get hurt that is why they where tight pants

More a matter of fashion than anything else. Back in the day they used to wear baggy pants. Remember when NBA players wore short shorts and socks that came up to their knees?-times change.
