I was sharing an apt, when I moved out one of the roomates moved in my room and gave me a bad check for half of my deposit and was supposed to give me the second check next week. What can I do.

Probably the same as in any other state..
Send a certified letter to the check writer, enclose a copy of the NSF check and demand immediate and full payment..
Then, after 10 - 15 days, turn the NSF check over to the District Attorney for collection.

I had a roommate bounce a check - I sent the check to the District Attorney (after contacting them). She had to pay them the money and then they sent me a check. It was like $600 and I ended up with like $100 a month but I got my money back. Its a federal offense in the US to bounce checks!

You can find a reputable credit collections agency in your area and see if they are willing to pursue the person in question.

It is against the law and called "usury" Call the police and report it.
