(CNN) -- Sources investigating the death of Anna Nicole Smith's son, Daniel, told a Bahamian newspaper that the 20-year-old had antidepressants and other drugs in his system at the time of his death, said a reporter for the paper.
"They said that was probably the cause of his death," Nassau Guardian reporter Inderia Saunders told CNN's "Larry King Live" on Tuesday.
However, Reginald Ferguson, assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamian Police, said authorities had not yet determined a cause of death, but that an autopsy was under way. (Watch how Anna Nicole's son was always there for her -- 4:02)
"So far, no foul play is suspected in this matter," he said.
The chief medical examiner in the case told People magazine that Daniel died of "unnatural causes," but with a 20-year-old, that could include a heart attack, said the magazine's staff editor Larry Sutton.
The Nassau Guardian initially reported Monday that Daniel Wayne Smith died of a heart attack. He was in his mother's hospital room when it happened, Ferguson has said.
"Anna Nicole is absolutely devastated by the loss of her son. He was her pride and joy and an amazing human being. Please do not make any press inquiries at this time so that Anna Nicole can grieve in peace," read a statement on her Web site.
Daniel Smith died Saturday at Doctor's Hospital in Nassau, where he was visiting his mother -- a model and reality TV star -- after she had given birth to a girl three days earlier.
Anna Nicole Smith is recovering well from the Caesarean section and was "laughing, giggling, smiling, etc." after the operation, said Dr. Hubert Minnis, her obstetrician.
"One cannot have expected anything else. It was a nice, smooth, non-complex, non-complicated delivery and she is doing just fine, perfect," he said.
The death of her son, however, has left her "emotionally stricken," said Minnis.
"If one had acted differently, then one would be very concerned," he said.
Alex Goen, CEO of Trimspa, a line of weight-loss products endorsed by Anna Nicole Smith, said he had spoken to her on the phone for about an hour. She was so emotional that it was hard to understand all but five minutes of the conversation, during which she was talking about her new daughter, said Goen.
The 38-year-old has kept herself in the headlines, most recently when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in May that she could continue fighting for her share of her late husband's estimated $1.6 billion estate.
Anna Nicole Smith met oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall when she was an exotic dancer and married him a few years later. She was 26, and he was 89 at the time of the marriage.
Marshall died the following year, setting off a decade-long court battle between Anna Nicole Smith and the tycoon's son, E. Pierce Marshall, over the estate. Marshall died in June.
A U.S. bankruptcy judge initially awarded Anna Nicole Smith $474 million, but the amount was later reduced to about $90 million. A federal appeals court eventually dismissed the entire award.
