Don't be too worried, I'm sure every woman will have one in her lifetime.

I had an abnormal pap a few years ago, so my doctor scheduled a colposcopy so he could actually look at my cervix and see the cells that were causing the abnormal results. He used a laser and removed the small abnormal area, then scheduled a colposcopy every 6 months. I haven't had an abnormal pap since the procedure, and nothing more has ever been found on the colposcopies. The colpo is really the best way, according to my doctor, to be sure that the problem is resolved, since the swabbing during a pap smear can miss certain areas and give a false normal result.

Depending on the level of abnormality and your doctor you can expect follow up paps and biopsy every six months until two clean tests are taken in a row.

My doc said it's nothing to worry about, there are four or five levels of abnormalities until you get to cancer and they start treating you at the pre-cancer stage before it gets that far. In general the abnormalities clear up on their own as the cell shed naturally and are replaced with healthy cells.

You should have a second test as soon as the doctor recommends and don't stress.

yeah, when I was 17, they did a repeat pap, when that also came back with displasia they did a biopsy followed by cryotherapy. It was successful as that was 22 years ago.....you have to follow up with it, it can be anything from a wart virus to precancerous cells as it was in my case. My issue at the time was that the drs office wouldn't explain anything to my mother and I. I had to go my pediatricians nurse whom I had not seen since I was 10 to find out what to expect. The dr had been like, "Well theres no rush if it cancer we'll just do a hysterectomy" My mom and I were like bullshit dude....I'm having babies! My family rushed me to a womens clinic in LA where they do that procedure three days a week instead of one day every other month!
