You can't get rid of it. 70% of women have it and it only effects you baby during delivery. They will give you an oral antibiotic before delivery. If they don't it can cause Meningitis. my nephew almost died after birth because of it. My sister had a doc who did the test too soon and after the fact we found out she was a quack

GROUP B STREP has a 37% occurence
It is normal body flora meaning its part of you and you can never get rid of it
It can be transient (be there for a while , go and then come back)

We know that group B strep doesnt hurt well adults however if the baby is exposed and generally only for long periods of time ie 12hrs plus when the waters have broken it can develop septicaemia and lung infections.

ABOUT 2% of Women with Group B strep get sick babies

All of my mothers are screened between 35-37 weeks to check for group B strep using a vaginal and rectal swab. (it also grows in your intestine)

If your positive you have antibiotics at delivery.
Pre treatment doesnt cure it because it just grows back.
You have it for life and yes it can be transfered by sexual contact.

Group B Strep is not something that your partner can catch from you. If you get pregnant your doctor will not normally test for this until about 34-36 weeks. If you test + for it (About 20 % of women do) they will give you antibiotics to keep the baby from getting it during the birth. My son was born by emergency c-section at 29 weeks, and he got it, and had to be on antibiotics for the first week he was in NICU

Strep B is something that the doc will test u for about a month before ur due date, if ur positive then, when in labor you will be give antibiotics through an IV to prevent damage to baby as it passes through the birth canal. and then baby is given antibiotics too. cuz it can cause things like blindess is some cases,,, but not to worry, because it's very common to test positive for and I did with both my kids, and they are perfectly perfect!!! :P,, and no you cant give it to ur hubby!! it's not a big deal at all and it's NOT an std!!

i also tested positive for strep b. i was in no was sick neither was my baby. What they did for me was give me IV antibiotics during labor to make sure it wouldnt get passed onto the baby. No you cant pass it on your husband. its a bacteria growing in the vagina in some women and is perfectly harmless to people except that it can makes babies sick hence the precautions during labor!

Strep B is not harmful to adults. It is cleared with antibiotics, to avoid transmition to the baby during birth.
