Only 2 to 4 out of 25 got it.
It's a hypocritical, ambiguity question.

LOL

I believe that all packaged foods are required to have an expiration date. Furthermore, sour cream does spoil in spite of the fact that it is sour. It can get moldy. I don't know how long it takes for commercial sour cream to get moldy because it is frequently ultra-pasteurized or sterilized so that would help it to keep longer but not forever I guess. I buy mine at Trader Joe's because it not ultra pasteurized or sterilized so I know when it is too old.

It does seem funny to have an expiration date on sour cream, doesn't it? But the fact is, after that date, the sour cream begins to turn rancid, and, as Martha would say, "that's NOT a good thing....."

Sour cream spoiling is not a myth, just let it sit for a while past the expiration date and you will see why they put it on.

because you have to know the exact time that it will revert to cottage cheese. this way you know if it is acceptable to eat it right out of the can or is you have to put it on something first.

sometimes after ti goes back to cheese you can put it in the blender on "liquify" for about 30 seconds to get another week of sour cream out of it, but i really do not suggest doing this more than 5 times.

( if any of you are smart enough to read this but still dumb enough to believe it. i will take no responsibility for your food poisioning.)

Same as yogurt, which contains bacterial cultures...soured milk products don't prevent the growth of mould and some forms of mould can actually be toxic if ingested.

It is a sell by date because it will grow a green mold after awhile. It also seems to accumulate water on top of it, takes away from the taste.

Same reason why there are expiration dates on Milk, Buttermilk, Cream Cheese, Cheese etc. They go BAD or MOLDY!

one might say a stupid question deserves a stupid answer. but I can see your point. it is called sour cream. in dairy terms sour means it is bad and you can not use it. like sour milk. but then on other hand there is sour lemom balls. now those won't get ickey like a dairy product but yet they have the term sour in them.

You have NOT looking in my frig! If you did, you would know! One day, I promise to clean the thing out...maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day...oh, hell, maybe next year. I'll check the sour cream then.

LMAO ... because after the exp. date, a green fungus tends to grow on top of the sour cream, and, wellllll ... unless you like to eat green fungus, the exp. date tells ya that there's a possibility of the fungus being present.
