As long as it is a quad-band, like the Motorola Razr, it should work just about anywhere in the world. You'll have to either activate international service through Verizon or just buy a sim chip wherever you go and get a local phone number.

Yup, it'll work in some countries, but not all of 'em. Verizon phones use CDMA technology, which is used in a few other countries throughout the world. Verizon may also have GSM capable phones - those'll work just about anywhere. Check the reference link for more info.
