JERUSALEM – The attack today against the United States embassy in Damascus was orchestrated by American intelligence to embarrass the Syrian regime and extract political concessions, a senior member of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Baath Party claimed to WND.

"We in the government are 100 percent sure America was behind this attack, which is not the same as other attacks by Islamic groups," said the senior Baath party official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"Only the Americans can succeed in carrying out an attack just 200 meters from President Assad's residence in the most heavily guarded section of Syria," the official said.

The official claimed the U.S. first directed the attack and then ensured it was foiled to "prove Syria is filled with terrorists and to put us in a weak position."

The U.S. did not foil the attack, however. Syrian security forces reportedly stopped the assailants after a 30-minute shootout, although there were some reports U.S. Marines stationed at the embassy took part in the firefight

Wouldnt be a bit suprised

I expect the hysterical cries of "The Muslims are coming! The Muslims are coming!" Have you learned nothing about the world? Can you not see the obvious manipulations of the U.S.-U.K. intelligence community in these bogus "terror alerts"?

Gee, whadda ya know, it's time for a midterm election and George Bush has a 30% approval rating --- and here come the Muslim hordes because they "hate our freedoms"!

Grow up. The American government spends over $500 billion a year on defense, over $60 billion a year on intelligence. That's more than the rest of the world combined. That sound you hear is not a billion Muslims strapping bombs to their chests. That sound you hear is the American military-intelligence complex prodding the stupid citizens who pay for it. They've got plans for martial law in America, and you people are prattling on about Islamofascism.

The first 9/11 was an inside job. The next one -- probably in the next two months, just in time for the elections -- will also be made in America. Open your eyes and see the real enemy.

You really have to consider the source. The answer is contained in their statement, "...just 200 meters from President Assad's residence in the most heavily guarded section of Syria,"

If not the US, then who? Sounds like they are trying to discredit the US. Most likely the Syrian government themselves to get out from under the pressure that they are now under.

The best defense is an offense. Rather than take the blame, turn the blame back on the victem. The ol' one / two punch.

Short, Sweet, Simple and Transparent.

I agree with quarterto, the defense is a good offense; it fits right in there with the 9/11 conspiracy theorists and timely with that, don't you think so?
