If you have technical skills, then look for jobs in Boeing or Microsoft.
If you don't have any skills, then look for cashier/waitress jobs in restaurants/Starbucks.
If you have teaching skills, then teach all those conservative children.
Chicago has a lot of old buildings and it's very cold in the winter. You may do well if you can trade commodity.
As for New Orleans, you'll need lots of patients. People are more depressed due to the Katrina event. Buildings may have mold. Watermay still be contaminated. You'll need a big heart to live and work there.

Depends on which side of the water you go to - there are a lot of opportunities in and around Seattle related to IT and customer support(Verizon and Comcast are both hiring customer service reps), but if you go to the west side of Puget sound(takes about 30 minutes and you're in Kitsap County), your opportunities are going to be limited to Teletech(customer service) and Puget Sound Navel Shipyard(PSNS). Neither one's really all that bad, but they're the only places you're likely to get hired with any sort of quickness or certainty...and getting into PSNS can take awhile. There's also Boeing, Amazon occasionally hires new people, and all sorts of other jobs at small companies. There ARE jobs here, they can just be hard to find(depending on what skillsets you have). Good luck if you are looking for a job in the area.

Probably the same sort of jobs that are available in any major city across the United States.
From what I understand, there are a lot of jobs in the coffee industry there.
