Why do certain people, that obviously have no clue about fish care, tell people that their fish has ick/ich when they clearly don't? And then to tell them to buy medicine? You (and you who you people are) suck. Don't give advice if you don't know.
So, in a nutshell, if your fish has ick/ich it will look like it was sprinkled with salt. There's various ways to treat it, meds from a pet store such as rid-ich, formalin, etc. But read the labels, because some Tetras, cory cats, loaches, scaleless fish can get seriously burned/die from it. You can also slowly (1 degree an hour) raise your tank temperature to at least 82 degrees and add AQUARIUM salt (not kitchen, table, rock salt) which is also picked up at the pet store, with dosing instructions on the package. Again, certain fish cannot tolerate salt, most of what I've typed above. Now, here is a link all about ick/ich, everything and anything you ever wanted to know (stole it from you Sly from AC).

Freely I received, and freely I have shared. And good for you for doing the same.

Bad info - misinformation - is what has discouraged so many hobbyists in the past, and now with the Internet - there's just no excuse not to get it right (to coin your phrase - and a very good one at that).

All you can do is share - it's up to the people who you share with as to what they do with it.

A guy out in Texas told me this once, and it is sooooooo true, and applies to so many situations...

"You can't polish a turd".

hehehe - some people are just turds.

See you out on AC and AB!

Hmm.. I agree, mostly. I've heard raising the temp any more than 4 degrees per 24 hours could cause more stress on the fish (thus lowering their immune systems), though, so I'd have to disagree with that statement.

Other than that, right on.

EDIT for Sissy: It's one thing to ask for opinions, it's another thing to ask for advice. When people ask questions on here in which they need advice, usually, correct advice would be most helpful, not some random term that some idiot pulls out of his butt and tries to sound intelligent with. You don't see me answering those cat and dog questions that you seem to like to answer so much. Why? Because I wouldn't know what I'm talking about. And frankly, I'm too lazy to do actual research to answer the questions. However, if you'd like me to come on over and give stupid answers like most people, I'll gladly do so.

It's not too much to ask that people answer questions with thought-out, intelligent, RELEVANT answers, is it? Because if so, well then, what am I doing here answering questions?

In response to Michael G, some fish live past 40 years of age. I suppose you've got to quantify what you mean by the statement "life long pet."

It's a common problem, here and elsewhere. People act like they know what they're talking about, often they haven't a clue. Worse yet, we voices of reason and intelligence are obscured by them.

If you don't want any opinions then don't ask. If you didn't asked the question and someone else did then they are looking for all suggestions. This is what it is all about.
