Why are psychological abusers real nice to you at some times, and then real mean to you at other times? Are they doing it on purpose in order to get you to open up and trust them so that they can turn around later and stab you in the back? What is their motivation for this?

Psychological abusers are always playing The Game. When they are being nice to you it is because they want to gain your trust, discover your weaknesses, and disarm you. Their niceties are never to be taken at face value. Psychological abusers manipulate others because they learned some where in life that it is a dog-eat-dog world and if they do not control others at ALL times then they will be controlled by them. This faulty thinking comes from a deep rooted fractured sense of self and inability to "win" fairly. No matter what you do, you cannot help this person. This person will not change. This person is consumed by jealousy, anger and will always see the world as an enemy.

Unless you are extremely stupid and naive, you'll have the common sense not to associate with people who are obviously abusers and back stabbers. That is why people with evil intent often have an extra nice persona, so they can lure people in and creep through their psychological defenses undetected. It is a reflection of the fact that most psychological abusers aren't extremely stupid or naive either. Their reasons for wanted to abuse and betray are their own, and since I consider myself a relatively nice guy I can't really relate to them. But they usually have subtlety nuanced strategies for getting what they want.

Wow, it seems like there are tons of people like that nowadays. I don't even know if it has something to do with their personality. I think people really just love power tripping and messing with other people's emotions. It seems like some people get a high on it. And you may be right, they'll get you to tell them juicy stuff then do a 180 and use it against you.

Because they are lacking something emotionally. Usually these people have an inferiority complex because someone was very belittling to them, usually a parent. People like this didn't get the right amount of affection or attention.

People like this are usually manipulative, compulsive liars, and practicaly borderline in their personalities,

that's my take on it anyway.

Usually they have a personality disorder. Like a Borderline, etc. Or they are
plain & simple sociopaths. They care nothing about other peoples feelings.
They cannot sustain a relationship. And you need to get the hell out now...
People like this need intense ongoing treatment, they cannot help it, it's like
they're damaged. Good luck to ya....

Human nature.

It's against the law to physically assault someone, and dangerous if you don't pick your victim correctly. For these reasons, those who need to hurt others resort to psychological tactics.

You might as well ask, "why are they human beings?"

Any person can psychologically abuse another. There are no categories of individuals who are "psychological abusers" so no general statement about "them" can be made. It always depends on who you're referring to: case to case basis.
