I want a nice room, but nothing fancy is necessary. He likes poker and l like plenty of cheesy penny and nickle slots. A bargain would be welcome.

The excalibur is very nice and not too expensive. A room with a view was only sixty five bucks a night.

Try out The Golden Nugget in Old Downtown Vegas on Fremont Street. These are far and away the nicest rooms downtown. The rooms are average-sized and first-class, with lots of marble, beautiful carpets, nice bedspreads and elegant accoutrements like a lighted vanity mirror. They also have irons, hairdryers and in-room safes in each room. If you've got nothing to put in the safe, call down to the front desk and ask them to bring up something valuable. More than most properties, this one actually achieves understated classiness. The views are okay, but mostly look over North Las Vegas, the mountains, or the faraway Strip. The North Tower is the nicer one, barely, but they try to get you to pay more for it. It leads directly into the casino. The South Tower is plenty nice, but a longer walk from the casino. It is right across the street from the parking garage, though.
The on-site spa is top-notch, with his and hers facilities and masseusses who really are masseusses, not prostitutes. Fine room service, in-room check-out, elevator security. The check-in process has always been quick when we stayed here.
The pool was the best downtown before they closed it for remodeling, which isn't saying a lot. And supposedly it'll be pretty spectacular when it reopens in Spring 2007.
Excellent cocktail service. If you are playing big money, you can have whatever drinks you want, made out of whatever you specify. If you're camped at a nickel slot, however, you're going to get well drinks made from the cheapest booze (just like every casino). If you get too drunk here, you'll feel out of place, because most people maintain their decorum.

I found that the Stratosphere is a nice place to stay. They're not overly priced and definitely are not fancy but the rooms aren't bad at all. We got a suite in the strat for about $80/night. I've stayed in Cesar's Palace and enjoyed it there too, but for the price I would recommend the Strat...however even though it's technically on the "Strip". it's at the end of the strip and it's a long walk to the heart of the strip.

If you don't mind staying off strip, the Orleans has really good deals on rooms most of the time (~$50, if you book thru vegas.com or use a coupon code or somethin) and their rooms are pretty nice. Pretty new furniture, coffee table n sofa, beds are pretty comfortable.

I have stayed at Ballys and The Rio. Both are great although perhaps not cheap. The Rio is all suites and very nice and comfortable.

I like it comfy.
