Last night my rectum itched (sorry to be so gross) and I took the appropriate measures. On the tissue there was this long (maybe 3 inches) off white thing. It was obvious that it had been in my feces (sorry again to be gross). Could this be a tapeworm? It didn't look like anything I had eaten and it didn't come out with a bowel movement.
If it is a tapeworm, what natural products can I take to help get rid of it/them? thanks
No smart alec remarks please!

I guess I should have said that I haven't been out of the US - ever. I don't eat raw meat.
This thing looked like a piece of dental tape, and I can assure you I haven't swallowed any dental tape!

It's not a tapeworm but it is a worm. My son had them a few years ago. Call your doctor and tell them about the itching and what you found. They gave my son a pill that basically killed them all off. We had to be really clean with him and his bed, and the bathroom. (I'm about to get gross) the worms fall out as they die and some leave because it's a non hospitable environment once you take the medicine. So... you can catch these things by touching a hand rail at the movies or the doorknob to the bathroom, get the picture? So let them know it's a simple fix to a really weird and gross problem. Sorry. And one more thing... People WASH YOUR HANDS!!!

Tape worms are longer and flat. Actually, that sounds like a Pin worm. Escpecially if your anus itches at night (which is when the little critters are active. ) there is an over the counter remedy for pin worms. It is a solution you drink which slays the beasties and then you pass them out. The best thing to do for your doctor, is to amke an appointment with him. The morning of the oppointment take several pieces of scotch tape and directly apply them to the anus then remove. If there are any eggs, etc...the tape will pick them up so your doctor can look under the microscope. This infection is actually pretty common with children and the parents of an infected child.

It can be a tape worm if it looked like a flat piece of whitish tape. If it curled up it could be a pinworm. You don't say if you have been travelling recently, or where you were born. Some countries you will find that the locals have indigenous intestinal worms that dont affect the humans.
It could be a piece of paper that you inadvertantly swallowed. Was it definately made up of tissue like a worm, or unknown?
You should save it if you ever find another one and get it to a lab (via your MD) for analysis.
There are medications to kill various types of intestinal worms, but an MD would need to guide you on that.

Sounds like pinworm. Common in children, it can be cured with a cream from the doctor.
Tapeworms usually live in the intestine and aren't felt by the 'host'. The only noticeable signs are weight loss and malnutrition as the worm grows by eating the host's food. Tapeworms, last I heard, needed to be surgically removed and don't ever 'exit' of their own will - unless the host is dead.

This is very serious, you do need to seek medical treatment, A.S.A.P.!!! There are pinworms, tapeworms, roundworms, threadworms, hookworms, and ringworms....Obviously, a couple, of these, can be automatically, ruled out. But, you do need to get checked out, right away. It sounds like pinworms, except for the 'size', that you mentioned, if one person, in the household, has 'them', everyone could be infected (perhaps) or at least a candidate! Creams, are not the solution, washing one's hands...is an excellent idea, to stop new outbreaks, but, you need to stop the cycle with medication. Everyone, in the household, should get checked out.
Good Luck!

If your bunghole itches at night. It is pinworms laying their eggs. What you could do to confirm this is get clear tape and tape it over your bunghole and peel it off after a good seal. With the bare eyes you could see miniscule white dots those are the eggs. Quick remedy if it is pinworm...Warn up vinegar in a pan which wil fit your butt sit on it and soak during the nights of itching.

You'd have to save the specimen and take it to a lab or to your doctor. Or have a stool specimen sent to the lab for exam for ova and parasites.
