I have been working for a company for almost 1 yr now. My immediate manager has become pregnant and has been working 15 -20 hrs a week as compared to the 40 required. The manager of the office is aware and signs her 40 time cards anyway. I am in no way compensated for the extra work and time by myself there. HR has no idea of the situation. I have been sick for the past 2 days and have recievd a phone call yesterday teling me it was not fair to her that i was not there because she planned to take time off and if i couldnt let her know if i was going to be there tomorrow that she was going to hire a temp and it would not be needed for me to come to work tomorrow. (as if i can predict if i will be well tomorrow). I spoke to the office manager who aid that i was putting a burden on the office. I have rarely ever miissed any days before this. I am very hurt and their offended at their reactions, what should I do. I do plan to speak with both of them when i return.

In response to the question asked, yes, I "think" I have a job to return to.

Njina, sorry to say I am basically at the bottom of the ladder as far as positions go at this office.

I think your immediate manager is really being unfair. Even if she's pregnant, it is no reason for her to be absent all the time and put all the burden in you. For being ill and absent, they can't blame you for that. Rest and go back until you're well. Yes, talk to them and if they still do not listen to you and plan to fire you out of your job, then talk to the one who is higher in position to them/HR. Tell him/her honestly what your co-workers are doing and justify why you have been absent for awhile. If you need to show a medical certificate, then do show them.Goodluck, I hope you'll get over this soon.

Sorry about your situation. Since the immediate supervisor is pregnant it is obvious you will need a temp to do her duties since she is proving that she cannot handle them (reduced to 20 hours from 40, this is mostly unfair). What grade are you in employment coz am of the opinion you should consult the HR and if you are in Union, your union representative coz to me the whole situation is unfair.

You need to detail to HR the lengths you have gone to in order to pick up the slack for your manager, and tell them in a factual manner what exactly transpired during the phone call to you at home. cc your manager and the office manager on this.

He who has the best paper trail and documentation wins.

How do you expect things to change if you don't speak up and speak out?

Are you sure you have a job to return to. These people don't seem to think of you in the same way they do of your manager. Start looking for a job elsewhere
