Of course! But let me know in which level of education you are? If Graduate or Post Graduate then : you can choose Any of the following,

1. You can test the Quality of Water you are using in your town for sanitation/Drinking/Agriculture.
For testing you need to collect samples from different places of your town and do test them.

Parameters: pH, Temperature, Acidity, Alkalinity, Conductivity, Hardness, Total Dissolved solid, Total suspended solid, Conc. of different metals etc.

pH, Conductivity can be measured by respective instruments.
Conc. of metals can be measured by Spectrophotometer by using specific reagents for a specific metal.

After knowing them you can compare with the Prescribed values of ICMR, WHO and European standards and mention whether these are in the safe limit or some are more than that then whats for they are high and how that can be prevented. It's good.

The other project that can be done are:

You can do for Air in idustrial Town.

You can do for soil in different farm lands.

Regarding food, you have to first know the specification for the different components in food and then you can do that.

Algae growth in waters contaminated by detergents...if you school has a colorimeter you can measure results...equipment need not be elaborate...remember each variable must be recorded. Pond water is a source of algal cells, but for best accuracy you could buy pure cultures of any of spirogyra, etc.

I can think of many. But one of the major reasons to do a science project is to get you to think of one to do. So I will not answer. Think and do!

HINT: you are graded on showing your use of the scientific method. So study up on that and use it.
