Why are Children songs so Evil? Did you know they are not as fun as you think?
As a matter fact did, you know that "Ring around the rosy pockets full of poesy’s hush a hush a we all fall down" was made up during the bubonic plague in England in the middle ages.
This is what it meant:
Ring around the rosy (People got something that was killing every one it looked like a pimple but it had a purple ring around it)
Pockets full of poesy’s (People put poesy’s (a flower) in their pockets to mask out the smell of the dead)
Hush a Hush a we all fall down (Meaning every one is falling down dead)
Also my niece has a children's CD and one of the songs at the end said "Here comes the chopper to chop off you're head"
Would you really want to sleep after that? Didn't think so

Or, how about "rock a by baby in the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock, when the bough breaks the cradle will fall, and down will come baby cradle and all"...YIKES!
Guess it proves there are some really sick people writing children's songs!

HA! I know!!!!! And I knew about the origins of this song too. This is the same thing along the lines of the Grimms Fairy tales. Did you know that in the ORIGINAL Cinderella story, to make the glass slipper fit, one of the evil step-sisters CUT OFF HER TOE to make it fit, and the other SLICED OFF PART OF HER HEEL?!
Rockaby baby on the tree-top.....when the bough breaks, the cradle will FALL and DOWN WILL COME BABY, cradle and all... I've not heard the "chopper" song though!!!
You just gotta laugh because death is NOT such a prominent part of our society the way it was back then!

Yes, I knew that about ring around the rosey. I told my grandma to stop teaching it to my cousins. I've never understood why the baby falls out of the treetop in rock-a-bye baby.
We have several lullabye cd's & the words to the songs just do not make sense.

I thought it was, "...ashes, ashes. We all fall down." Oh, well, either way, it seems a bit violent the way you put it. I didn't know that before... thanks for sharing! I can't really help you here because I don't know much about violent/inappropiate childrens' songs... sorry! :(

these songs used to be used to educate kids. the original little red riding hood was very violent a taught kids that strangers can be bad and might kidnap you

as kids we dont pick that stuff up, ever watch cartoons like sponge bob I find myself cracking up at things my son cant comprehend he looks at me like Im nuts yet the silliest things make him laugh things that I would think are too simple for him to find funny yet he does
