I tanned this summer for the first time in, I think, 18 years. The only thing I can think of is that in the beginning of June, I was working in the deep South, and applying SPF 30 sunblock twice a day...no burn, but I think the sun was hot enough to tan through it. I got one burn near the end of April which did the I'm-gonna-go-pale thing again, but besides that I seem to have tanned fairly well this year. So, what worked for me at least was just using good protection in extended periods under very hot sun...so maybe a medium protection under long periods in medium sun would work as well.

I'm really pale too, the only thing I've found that looks natural is Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer, I use the lightest one and it is subtle compared to other tanners but still makes a difference. You can just get it at the drugstore and it's so cheap too, about 3 dollars a bottle. They sell a separate one for the face but I don't think it's necessary, I just dilute the regular one with a bit of moisturizer (about half and half) and put it on my face. If I want to be tan I'll do this twice a week.

I have the same problem. I burn like a lobster! what works for me is....I do some sort out door water activity every other day. And i keep applying sunblock and over the days, as you keep doing things out in the sun....you'll get a nice color. I dont like to apply sun tan lotion....cause then it makes you too tan. So sunblock doesnt let you get burned , just a little tanned.

YES YOU CAN TAN IN THE SUN BUT ONLY ABOUT 30MIN AT A TIME. IF YOU BURN THEN YOUR SKIN PEELS AND THE TAN PEELS OFF. SO A 30 MIN A DAY WILL ALLOW YOU TO GET A TAN NOT A BURN AFTER 10 DAYS INCREASE YOUR TIME A LITTLE EACH DAY AFTER. THEN WHEN YOU ARE DONE USE BABY OIL ALL OVER YOUR BODY TO HELP BRING ON TAN.

use an spf of 40, and lay in the sun, it may take awhile for you to get a tan, but at least it will be a tan rather than a burn

Take it slow and build up your time in the sun. I am very fair. I know you said no tanning beds, but they work for me better than the outside sun. Or self tanners are good too.

you should try using jergens natural glow lotion. it works very well, doesn't look fake, isn't expensive, and you don't have to get the harm of sun exposure.
