I got this condo as an auction, so everything is "as is". The inspection said everything was fine. But when I tried to move in I realized that there is no water at all coming out when I turn on the hot water in the kitchen or shower. The cold water is fine. Then my neighbor came to tell me that she has the same problem because our water lines are connected. It seem like when they winterized the property they messed with the lines and now they're all screwed up. I'm trying to have the people who did this come and fix it, but there's the possibility that they'll refuse to do it. If this is the case, is it a very complex problem? How expensive do you think it will be to fix?

If there is no water at all from the Hot, but there is pressure from the Cold, chances a valve or two is shut off. If your water heater wasn't working, water will still flow, it just won't be hot.

If you can get to the water heater, look at the top. There should be two water pipes sticking into it. One is the inlet, or cold, supplying water to be heated. The other pipe will be the outlet, which supplies heated water to your condo. One or both of these pipes will have valves on them. Make sure these are open. Turn them counter-clockwise, (they may be hard to turn.)

If it works, and you open a closed valve, you will hear the sound of rushing water. If it doesn't work, there may be another valve somewhere, a branch valve off the main hot water line. Follow the outlet pipe from the water heater to the lines to the sink and shower. You may find another valve, make sure it's open.

Once you have all the valves flowing, water should come out when you turn on the hot for you shower and sink. Let is set (off) for about 20 -30 minutes. If the water hasn't started to heat up, your water heater is off. If it's electric, find the curcuit breaker and turn it on. (Hopefully it's lablaed). If it's gas, it may have an electric pilot. If it plugs into anything, make sure its on. If it's an older model with a standing pilot, follow the directions on the water heater to light it.

u . s . it will be that the kitchen is amazingly close to to the water heater, hence it really is getting the favored water. even if it really is too warm, turn the temperature on the water heater down. Or, have a qualified plumber deploy a "blending" valve, which will blend a small part of chilly water with the nice and cozy with a view to sensible the temperature. Or, regulate the chilly and warm water on the tap so it isn't too warm. with regard to the bathe: the perfect residential water heater is 40 gallons, and the water is favored on the accurate. in the experience that your bathe head elements 3 gallons in accordance to minute, even as you've 5 minutes before it starts off to kick back, and 10 minutes before it really is chilly (as a results of addition of chilly water because the nice and cozy is used). cures: advance the size of the water heater, or: Take shorter showers, or: If the bathe is more effective than 40 ft from the water heater, deploy an auxiliary water heater close to to the bathe - and this can nicely be a 30 gallon. no count number what you do, also deploy insulation on the nice and cozy water piping. One inch thick fiberglass is the optimal; different a lot less intense priced (and decrease R value) insulations are accessible in. The water loses warmth because it travels by the pipes; by employing insulating the piping, this is going to decrease warmth loss.

If they winterized it, they probably turned off the water to the water heater and drained it so it wouldn't freeze up.

Find the water valve to the water heater and turn it on.
Now, turn on the hot water in the bathtub and let it run for a couple minutes to purge the air from the lines.
Now find the circuit breaker for the water heater and turn it on. (if it's electric) If it's gas, your local utilities company sould be called out to turn on the gas.

I think, the pump and circuit breaker for the hot water is switch off. Try to locate it and put it on. If there are still no water running, call a plumber to fix it. Its not so expensive, in terms of repair, unless you have to change all the piping lines.

It sounds like the water supply to your water heater has been turned off. Locate the water heater and turn the valve on.

if the water to the heater is off, no water comes out. This is seperate from the main line which is the cold water. You might get your inspector to come back and show you where it is.
