It doesnt sound like it to me. Here's the great guidelinefor things to watch: ABCD.

A: asymmetry
B: border (meaning irregular)
C: color (meaning not like a freckle or normal dark mole)
D: diameter. (more than 6 mm)

To see the guidelines in more detail check my source.

That being said, plenty of people have huge moles that aren't cancerous. My dad is one. He regularly checks to make sure there haven't been any changes, but other than that he's fine.

Another warning is any sudden change in those ABCDs.

just for future reference ;)

Good idea getting it checked out, though. If the doctor is concerned, he will take a biopsy (scrape off cells) and let a pathologist or cancer specialist check for signs of cancer.

Doesn't sound like it is, but I am glad that you are going to see a doctor - that's the right thing to do.
He most likely be able to tell just by looking at it, or take a sample to check it out.

You will just have to wait and see.

The ones that are prone to be cancerous lose their round look. They are also really really dark in color than a normal mole.

How long have you had this mole? If you've had it for a while, and it's been growing, then yes, I would say it's cancerous.
If it just sprung up overnight, then it sounds like a spider bite to me!

He's looking for the color and shape. It's usually a problem when the shape is irregular.

It sounds like something bit you, instead of it being cancer.
