He smiles but always looks the other way. I know he sees me but somehow can't bring himself to speak. I want to get to know him better but it is very difficult.

he might be one of those guys that can talk your ear off once you get to know him. you may need to be the aggressor in the beginning. Then you'll know if he's always quiet or just shy. good luck.

Speaking as a somewhat shy guy myself, I can tell you from experience that when a girl smiles and says "Hello," it always gets my attention. Being friendly and smiling is not being overly forward or flirtatious. Also, after I meet new people, the girls I remember aren't necessarily the prettiest or the most outgoing. They're the ones that took time to actually have a conversation and showed an interest in getting to know me. I know that many girls want the guy to make the first move or initiate a conversation, but if he doesn't, then it's up to you to go talk to him. It may seem scary, but remember, he's probably scared too. Best of luck, and kudos for recognizing that the shy, quiet guy is sometimes worth the effort it takes to be friends (or more) with him.

Yeah, I say be a bit straightforward with him in a cool way. Like telling him how good looking he is that day ... That might make him think for a minute

Take the initiative, girl! Find some common topic between you guys and just talk. Crack jokes. Laugh when he makes one. Hopefully, this will help. Good Luck! :)

Be warm and friendlly. Always greet them by saying their name as you say good morning. Bring them a treat for their coffee.
Engage them in conversation. Ask what they like to.
Also compliments always help.
Find out what his hobby is and tell him to tell you about it.
