Go to a site like Newegg and look up the speakers you were interested in. Two factors come into play, the speakers and your sound card/chip. If youre using a sound card, look at the specs to see the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR or dB). This tells you how loud they will play before they start to distort. Anything around 90dB and above is gonna crank pretty good. I had a Soundblaster Live! Platinum in my old PC with a 5.1 set of Cambridge Soundworks sub/speakers and it would hang right with my home stereo in volume, but I thought the PC setup actually had better tone. As far as speakers are concerned, wattage ratings can be misleading because many cheap speaker companies use tricky/dishonest methods to rate their speakers, as there isnt an industry-wide standard for rating them. Instead of wattage, focus more on their frequency range. You want a set that the sub will go as low as possible in Hz. Good subs will usually range from 25-40Hz, lower being better. And for the other channels, higher is better. As close to 20,000 Hz (20KHz) or above is best. I would recommend looking online to get a couple ideas for models with specs/price range youre interested in, compare them in person at your local Best Buy or Circuit City, then get your best deal online. Then there's no salesman input or pressure.

Nothing wrong.

I assumed he has listened to one before that sucks or he's a sound freak that requires the best from audio quality

Do note that sound card for the computer matters. Test a few sound cards if you can. Certain sound cards like Creative gives you a better sound quality. Low end sound cards would probably give you a duller sound.

Of course 5.1 surround speakers matters, but if you are playing from computer, you probably don't need a high end one.

Cheers & Bottoms Up

There is nothign wrong with it, maybe something wrong with the guy at Circuit City. If you have a sound card any speakers will be great. I use 5.1 surround on my laptop and it sounds perfect. Go for it, nothing wrong from what I see.

just hook your computer to your stereo I did and it rattles the pictures off the walls if I turn it down to 15 or 10 but that is ear damageing and with a powered sub woofer of 150 watts and 5 surround speakers each speaker is a 15 inch 8 inch horns for mids and pizo tweeters for highs I would go for the stereo setup if anything but if you want to go the computer speaker setup way I would suggest that you goto www.pcconnection.com and look at there speakers any sound system

Never listen to anyone that works at 'Circuit City' or for that matter any of the stores like that. They are nothing but a bunch of dweebs trying to make a sale and a commission. Buy what ever you want to buy and enjoy it.
