After about an hour of running at freeway speeds the trans shifts out of OD to 3rd gear and won't go back until you stop or it cools down. Anyone know what the problem is ?

I change the fluid and filter about a year ago. It was doing it before, made no differance...

Trans. OD clutch slipping and over heating trans.
Check your fluid. Is it kinda brownish and smell burned?
Is it low on fluid?

Without knowing the type of vehicle you are talking about, a guess you have an overheating problem. Get the transmission and possibly cooling system checked. If the trans and cooling system check out, add a transmission cooler before you have major problems.

first check your fluid level and color the color should be a reddish color if not change the fluid and filter and add an additive to stop the slippageif that dont work you have burned up the overdrive clutches

OD should be used only if you are hauling.
