They arent suppose to be, but i laminated mine because i was tired of getting new ones all the time from carrying them with me. And they would wear out. No one has ever said anything about it. And of course there are times when you have to show your SS card. I've never had a problem and have been doing it for years, This last one i've gotton i've had for more then 5 years! lol so the card itself says dont laminate but who's gonna come get me for doing it! its my card and if it ever happens I keep a new one without it being laminated here at home! happy laminating!

Yes, it is possible to laminate them, nothing will explode and nobody will die. But when you do laminate it, the card becomes null and void. This doesn't really matter, because I predict that in 10-20 years the scam that is social security will collapse on itself.

Mine has been laminated for about 15 years (before they told us not to), but these days, you are not suppose to laminate the SS card.

no...you can only put a slide on plastic covering on, which you can easily slide off...that is the best alternative...or just keep it in some kind of non-adhesive plastic covering that won't damage the card if you have to take it off....it says on the card that they cannot be laminated

No, do not laminate it. Just put it someplace safe where it will not get worn out. DO NOT CARRY IT WITH YOU!!! It is an identity thieves dream.
