I live in the U.S. and i know our country has a somewhat playful rivalry with Canadians..Just wondering if its the same there? It also seems that alot of people confuse Australians with New Zealanders...weird eh?

Yeah we have a playful rivalry with NZ, the silly little country next door that should really be another state. We have a strong rivalry in sport, particularly rugby and cricket (ask a New Zealander about the underarm incident). They talk funny, have a fondness for sheep and their currency is (well used to be) crap, and as someone else said they are about 20 years behind. And they come to Australia to receive our social security.

But we also have a strong bond, look up the ANZAC legend, we have a long and proud history of fighting wars together, even if the most famous battle that started the legend ended in us retreating. I think our similar geographical location and british heritage links us together too.

As an Australian i think NZ is ahead of us in some ways with a female Prime Minister, and I haven't seen a lot of the world, but NZ is just the most beautiful country, very very diferent to Australia.

confident, i'm Australian and locate New Zealanders stressful, like a pesky little sister crying out for interest. New Zealanders flatten their vowels while speaking and their capital city, Wellington is nearly a great us of a city. New Zealanders are approximately 2 an prolonged time at the back of Australia in terms of trend, foodstuff and technologies, besides the undeniable fact that they do have a transexual as a Member of Parliament, a international first, i think of. New Zealanders are obsessed on bungie leaping and snowboarding and many new Zealanders come to Sydney, laze around at Bondi sea coast, strengthen into voters and mooch off of our welfare gadget.

Yes, I'm Australian and find New Zealanders annoying, like a pesky little sister crying out for attention.

New Zealanders flatten their vowels when speaking and their capital city, Wellington is like a big country town. New Zealanders are about 20 years behind Australia in terms of fashion, food and technology, although they do have a transexual as a Member of Parliament, a world first, I think.

New Zealanders are obsessed with bungie jumping and skiing and lots of New Zealanders come to Sydney, laze around at Bondi Beach, become citizens and mooch off of our welfare system.

Australia really should look at building a groin wall along it's east coast .. every low tide we have heaps of them coming into the country and beating us at varios sports! It's really a bit sad!

We are rivals - but only in fun. We get along really well, and besides the slightly annoying accents (our opinions of eachother's accent) we relate well.

We are strong rivals when it comes to Rugby and other sport also. (Rugby in particular though.) We like to have eachother on.. but generally it's all in fun..
