y=2x+297

Although u have 2 variables and need to solve for x in order to find a value for y.

You can do this.
Y-300=2(x-1.5)

Y = 300+ 2x -3

which =

Y = 297 + 2X

I would not reduce anything further.
but u manipulate the problem further and
can say -2x = 297 - y
reduced to -X = (148.5 - (y/2) )
finally reduced to X = ( (-148.5) + (y/2))

Now u have an expression for x which u can subsitute back into:
Y = 297 + 2X

subsitute for X and u get

Y = 297 + 2( (-148.5) + (y/2)) now u have 1 variable :- )

Y = 297 + (-297 + Y)

where Y = Y which is kinda odd. But Mathemetically correct I suppose.

Someone correct me if IM wrong I'm off to bed........

Edit actually that would be the way to check to see if your answer is right when u get Y= Y

y - 300 = 2(x - 1.5)
y - 300 = 2x - 3
y = 2x + 297

y-300 = 2x - 3 (distribute)

y= 2x - 3 +300 (add 300 to each side)

y+2x+297 (simplify

Are you supposed to solve for x or y? That would help.

you have two unknowns in x y so you need two equations to sol.ve. you cannot solve this as it is
